Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge Day 5: Leaves

Hello lovelies! I hope you're week is going well. It's Wednesday so we're almost to the weekend! This weekend I'll be going to Howl-O-Scream which is an annual tradition with my friends and I couldn't be more excited! What are you guys up to?!

Today brings us to day 5 of the Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge and the theme is leaves. Honestly, this is probably the theme I was most excited for when making the challenge. It's actually the idea that sparked the challenge after some late night Pinning.

I'm really quite proud of this mani and the way the color scheme turned out so let's get started!

L-R: China Glaze Rougish Red, China Glaze Jungle Queen, China Glaze Kalahari Kiss, OPI The Thrill of Brazil, Wet n Wild Wet Cement and a black Stripe Rite

I used Wet Cement as the base on my pointer finger then drew the veins of the leaves with the black striper. For my middle finger, I used Kalahari Kiss as the base then used Rougish Red for the leaf and Wet Cement for the dots above it.

For the ombre on my ring finger, I grabbed a sponge and painted a layer of Jungle Queen, followed by a layer of Rougish Red and Kalahari Kiss then just sponged it on. Finally for the ring finger I decided I wanted to do a little pile of leaves with some falling down. I used an art brush and did small cross strokes of Rougish Red then Jungle Queen over a base of Kalahari Kiss. I used Jungle Queen for the falling leaves and voila!

Overall, I'm in love with this mani. The colors went fabulously together and I couldn't be happier with this result. Maybe it's just because Florida doesn't really have a "fall", but this mani makes me want to snuggle up with some hot cocoa!

What's your favorite part about fall?! Don't forget to enter the Trick or Treat Giveaway!

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge Day 4: Back to School!

Evening dolls! We're on Day 4 of the Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge and today's theme is Back to School! Now I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE back to school shopping, and not even just clothes. I can't get enough of the smell of new notebooks and pencils, mmmm. I've always been the kind of girl who gets the sparkly notebooks and pink everything LOL.

For today's mani I used (L-R):
Lac Attack Goldenrod
China Glaze Under the Boardwalk
China Glaze Icicle
OPI My Boyfriend Scales the Walls
Jessica Brown Sugar
Wet n Wild Red Red Rouge
Nina Ultra Pro Black
NYX Pure Green
Julep Alicia

Let's jump right in!

The pink ruler is actually really senitmental to me. I've had the exact same pink ruler since I was in the 2nd grade and I love it. It was a gift from grandfather who passed away 5 years ago and I will cherish it for the rest of my life.

That's all for tonight! What do you guys think? What's your favorite part about going back to school?

Hi dolls! Two posts in one day? Crazy I know. This is actually going to be a super quick post because I have business clients in town that I'm going out with tonight so I won't be around. OPI  My Boyfriend Scales the Walls
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge Day 2: Beachy/Tropical

Evening ladies! My  new job is running me absolutely ragged, but thankfully I have my polish to bring me back to reality! Tonight's post is Day 2 of the Falling Forward nail art challenge and our theme is Beachy/Tropical. Living RIGHT ON THE BEACH for 20 of my 22 years on this Earth is basically heaven on Earth, and I knew that I needed to incorporate it into this challenge somehow!

For this mani I used quite a few different colors! From left to right I used:
OPI My Boyfriend Scales the Walls
OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons
China Glaze Man Hunt
Sinful Colors Timbleberry
Essie Turquoise and Caicos
Wet n Wild Kaleidoscope
Stripe Rite Silver

Let's jump right in!! On my pointer finger, I decided to go with a design from my favorite pair of flip flops! They're super old and I got them from Old Navy a few years back but they're holding up so well! Turquoise and Caicos is my FAVORITE minty polish and matches my flip flops perfectly.

On my middle and pinky fingers, I went with Don't Pretzel My Buttons as my base and then sponged on Man Hunt as the waves crashing to the shore. I swirled in some MBSTW as the foam left behind on the shore. Then on top of DPMBI added a thiiiiiiin coat of Kaleidoscope to create the effect of the shells twinkling in the Florida sun. If you've ever been to a Florida beach on the perfect summer day, you know exactly what I mean.

Lastly, on my ring finger I decided to go with a lifesaver. Safety is sooooo important especially with all of the stingrays and sharks around the area so I felt it was extremely necessary to include it. I have a ton of friends who are lifeguards and I appreciate them for everything they do! I started with a base of My Boyfriend Scales the Walls then used tape to block off sections and added the red rings with Timbleberry. I also went with a half moon shape to resemble the ring!

That's all for tonight! Have you ever done a beach themed mani? I would love to see them so feel free to post yours on my Facebook page (College Polished)!

Falling Forward Nail Art Challenge Day 1: Neons!

Guess who's baaaaaack?! Hello my beautiful's, sorry for the short hiatus. Real life got a little more real so blogging took the backseat for a bit, but I'm back! And what better way to kick it off than with a nail art challenge!

So for those of you who don't know, I am art impaired. Nail art, real art, whatever. The extent of my abilities goes about as far as a stick person with some hair (no joke). So I took it upon myself to create this challenge to well, challenge my own artistic skills. Myself and some of my fellow bloggers/friends will be bringing you some super cool looks over the next two weeks as we say goodbye to Summer and hello to Fall! And by this end of this challenge, I will have mad skillz yo.

First up, neons! Nothin' says summer like a bright neon mani so I thought it'd be a great way to end our summer. For this mani I used, China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy as my base on my middle and pinky finger and Zoya Charisma as my top color with China Glaze Love's A Beach on my pointer and ring.

I chose to go with a skittles, tape mani for today's challenge and I LOVE the way they turned out!

Striping tape is amazing. Seriously, if you don't have some go to eBay and order some ASAP. So many designs, the possibilities are endless. The trick to getting nice, clean lines I've found (and read elsewhere) is to take the tape off SLOOOOOWLY while it is still wet. If you wait until it's too dry it just isn't as clean. Well for me, anyways, so do what works best for you!

Let me stop you for a second and mention how much I'm in love with China Glaze Love's a Beach. I mean just look at that hint of gorgeous blue shimmer. And the application? Flawless in one thin coat. China Glaze really knocked it out of the park with this one in my opinion. LaB is easily one of my top ten polishes for 2012!

Well there's my neon mani for today! Stay tuned on Wednesday for our Beachy theme! Have you girls worked with striping tape before? What was your favorite design? Comment below!
